	So you're interested in exterior shutters and perhaps you already have some wood shutters on your house that are showing signs of rot. Every 5 or so years it seems like you go through this cycle again and again of getting them replaced and now you're looking perhaps for an alternative. PVC shutters are quickly becoming the modern standard as a functional, no rot alternative to wood shutters which generally last 5 years on average. PVC exterior shutters require special installation that differs from traditional wood shutters. This is due to the thermal nature of PVC which is already being used in the industry for exterior trim applications and window boxes. The thing to keep in remember is that you want to secure the shutter to the house. To do this there are three important difference between PVC and wood.

Important notes:
1. Use vinyl safe paint
2. Use 3-4 hinges for support, not 2. (looks more decorative and historically more accurate anyway to have 3-4)
3. Secure with bracket at top and shutter dog on bottom for the outside portion of shutter.
In addition, we place a 2" x 2" metal L-shaped bracket behind the top outside corner and we drill down into the side of the shutter from above and we mount the bracket directly into the brick or siding wall using a screw and an anchor.

Prior to founding his own company, Buchwald was a builder for John Wieland Homes, where he won many awards including numerous consecutive "Plaque Homes" and "Awards in Excellence.
Buchwald also served as Commercial Outside Sales Manager for The Home Depot in Atlanta, where he was solely responsible for the initiation, design and implementation of new commercial sales division selling exclusively to builders.
Buchwald attended Southern Polytechnic State University in Atlanta, where he studied Architectural Engineering.

Kurt began this company in his basement making window boxes and exterior shutters only at first back in 2004. He made his first window box when he noticed that wooden window boxes on newly built homes were rotting off the home less than 2 years after being built while builders were still finishing the neighborhood. He came up with the idea of making a window box out of AZEK brand PVC that would be 100% rot and moisture resistant and would be ideal for just such an application. With that began an idea which turned into a conceptual reality and his business began. He later introduced the idea of making a no-rot shutter for many of the same reasons when a friend builder asked him if he could do it. Exterior wood shutters which tend to last 5-7 years on average are a constant maintenance issue for home owners and PVC offered an alternative that looked just like wood when painted. It also offered a functional and hingeable alternative that vinyl hollowback shutters could never attain.
